Online Premarital Counseling in Minnesota | Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator

What Premarital Counseling at ForwardUs Actually Does

Most couples who come to premarital counseling are not in trouble. You are here because you want to be intentional about the marriage. In six sessions I show you the specific patterns you and your partner are already running and I name them out loud while they are happening in the room. You leave with a concrete understanding of how your relationship operates and the skills to intervene when it starts heading somewhere neither of you wants it to go.

Premarital Counseling for Engaged & Seriously Dating Couples in Minnesota

Hi, I'm Evon.

I work with engaged and seriously dating couples who want a marriage that holds up when life gets stressful.

My approach runs on a framework I built called The Re|Pair™ Framework. In session, I catch the exact moment one of you starts to say the thing that's really underneath, then pulls it back and I stop us there, because that pulled-back moment is where the pattern lives. I won't let you circle the same argument for an hour. I name what I see while it is happening, even when it's a little uncomfortable, and I'll laugh with you too, because planning a wedding while deciding whose family gets Christmas is genuinely a lot.

As a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator in Minnesota and licensed couples therapist, I pair that with the most trusted premarital assessment, so our work is built around your specific relationship.

What Happens in the Six Sessions

Session 1 — You both take the Prepare/Enrich assessment before we meet. In our first session I walk you through the results and identify the specific strengths your relationship is built on and the pressure points that will show up under stress.

Sessions 2 and 3 — We work on conflict and communication using the patterns the assessment revealed. You practice having the hard conversations with me present so I can catch the moment it starts to go sideways and show you what happened.

Sessions 4 and 5 — We cover the practical architecture of your marriage: finances, family expectations, household roles and how stress will redistribute the weight between you.

Session 6 — We consolidate everything into a plan you take with you. You leave with a couples guide specific to your relationship and a notarized Educator's Statement that qualifies you for $75 off your Minnesota marriage license

What Couples Say About Premarital Counseling at ForwardUs Counseling

“The difference in our relationship from when we first started seeing Evon to where we are now is truly night and day... We also became pregnant while seeing her, and her knowledge and experience surrounding pregnancy, new parenthood, and the postpartum period were invaluable. She helped us navigate difficult conversations before the baby arrived, prepare for labor and delivery and discuss expectations for life after birth,”

Frequently Asked Questions About Premarital Counseling in Minnesota

  • No, premarital counseling is not required to marry in Minnesota. It is optional, though couples who complete at least twelve hours of premarital education with a qualified provider qualify for a reduced marriage license fee. Most couples choose it to build skills for marriage, not to satisfy a requirement.

  • Starting two to three months before your wedding works well for most couples. That timeline gives room for the full assessment and the core conversations without rushing, while leaving space around the busiest stretch of wedding planning. Couples who start earlier often get even more out of the process.

  • Premarital counseling usually runs four to eight sessions, depending on the provider and the couple's goals. My Re|Pair to Prepare package is six sessions, which allows time for the personalized Prepare/Enrich assessment plus the conversations around conflict, finances, family and intimacy that shape the early years of marriage.

  • Premarital counseling is an investment in the marriage itself, and many couples find the cost modest next to the wedding budget. ForwardUs is private-pay and out-of-network. Minnesota couples who complete the program also receive a certificate qualifying them for a reduced marriage license fee, which offsets part of the cost.
